About Dr. Ouner
Jerry John Ouner (né Nutor), PhD, RN, FAAN, is an associate professor at the University of California, San Francisco. He is one of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing representatives to the United Nations and a 2023 Fellow of the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program. He is the founder of Africa Interdisciplinary Health Conference, an annual international conference that promotes evidence-based practices related to the health sector in Africa.
Dr. Ouner’s research interests are in maternal and child health. He is also interested in understanding the impact of environmental, social and economic factors on the health of women and children with particular focus on HIV/AIDS in low resource countries and among minority populations in the United States. Dr. Ouner has published extensively in these areas of research. He mentors nurses and other healthcare professionals across multiple countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and North America.
Dr. Ouner obtained a PhD in Nursing from Drexel University and a postdoctoral training in Global Health and Health Policy from Princeton University. He holds MS in Nursing and Health-Care Leadership, a degree he obtained from University of California, Davis. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at University of Cape Coast (Ghana).
